FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS CONFIDENTIALITY?

As part of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Danielle must adhere to guidelines around confidentiality. For this reason, what you share in sessions remains between yourself and Danielle. There are times when individuals call and wish to know about someone else’s appointment. Please know that this information cannot be shared and would be a breach of confidentiality. Additionally, if you were to see Danielle in the community, she will not acknowledge you in order to protect your privacy.

As per the CRPO, there are limits to confidentiality that Danielle is required to adhere to, particularly related to safety. These limits to confidentiality are:

  1. if you say you are going to hurt yourself

  2. if you say you are going to hurt someone else

  3. if you say that a child is being abused

  4. if you say that you have been abused by a licensed professional, such as a physician or another counsellor

  5. if you are involved in a court case and session notes created by Jennifer are subpoenaed

  6. if you have signed a consent form to release information to a specific health care provider

HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE IF I START DO I HAVE TO GO FOREVER?

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. The duration that you continue to come back for session is completely up to you as the client. At times I will suggest a certain number of sessions based on your presenting issues. However, you are the determinant of how long therapy lasts. And you can always come back after a break in therapy as needed.

IS PSYCHOTHERAPY COVERED BY OHIP?

Unfortunately, OHIP does not cover private practice counselling services at this time. However many insurance providers cover Counselling and Psychotherapy services. Please check with your insurance provider, and be sure to specifically ask about coverage for Registered Psychotherapists.
